Brand identity
BACKGROUND
The journey of 1487 Brewery began in early 2016 with a centuries-old beer law and a desire for exceptional local brews. Founder Ben King, an Ohio native, developed a passion for beer during travels in Germany, where he experienced the rich flavors of Bavarian brews. Upon returning home, Ben noticed a lack of similar options in local markets. Inspired to fill this gap, he collaborated with colleague Thomas Garbe to create 1487 Brewery, bringing the taste of Bavaria to Ohio.
CHALLENGE
The main challenge was to capture the essence of Bavarian beer culture while ensuring a seamless fusion with the local Ohioan community. Additionally, the task involved creating a visually appealing and memorable brand identity that would convey the unique story and values of 1487 Brewery effectively.
SOLUTION
We created the brand based on the Bavarian origins of the beer and added to it the main slogan of the brand: "Born in Bavaria. Raised in Ohio." The logo itself is a good example of working with the golden ratio and basic, perfect figures (circle and square). In the central part of the logo, we introduced the name and enriched the emblem-like sign with four icons and the main slogan of the brand. The primary color of the brand is blue, representing Bavarian heritage, where the beer purity law was first published and still applies today. The main colors complement each other: helles gold (representing the beer, which is at the heart of our brand story), wheat beige (symbolizing the balance and purity of our beer and emotions), and dunkles brown (embodying genuine ingredients, authenticity of our story, and firm belief in what we do and how we do it).
